What is Compatibility View for Microsoft Windows Internet Explorer 8, 9, 10, or 11?
When a website or web page appears blank, is missing content, or displays incorrectly it could mean that it was designed for an earlier version of Microsoft Windows Internet Explorer. The
Compatibility View setting allows Internet Explorer to display the web page or website as if you were viewing it in the previous version.
Switching to
Compatibility View may be able to assist with the following:
- Logging into the Student and Faculty Portal
- Accessing the University Library
- Accessing Electronic Reserve Readings (ERR)
- Accessing the Learning Team Toolkit
- Unable to type in the Post Editor in the Discussion Forums
- Accessing the Inbox in the Student and Faculty website
- Viewing student submitted documents within the faculty Gradebook
- Leaving feedback within the faculty Gradebook
To Enable Compatibility View for the Current Site:
- Click Tools
Note: If you cannot locate Tools press Alt + T
- Select Compatibility View
Note: You can also click the broken piece of paper icon in the address bar to turn Compatibility View on (or off).
To Enable Compatibility View for a Specific Site:
- Click Tools
Note: If you cannot locate Tools press Alt + T
- Select Compatibility View Settings
- Type the desired site URL in the Add this website field
Note: We recommend adding phoenix.edu and apollolibrary.com separately to this list
- Click Add
- Click Close
To Disable Compatibility View for a Specific Site:
- Click Tools
- Select Compatibility View Settings
- Select the desired website to remove
- Click Remove
- Click Close
ATTENTION Internet Explorer 10 Users: Internet Explorer 10 will remove sites from the Compatibility View Settings list when the History is cleared.
To prevent apollolibrary.com and phoenix.edu from being removed from the Compatibility View Settings perform the following: Note:The Delete browsing history on exit checkbox will not remove Compatibility View settings if the steps above are followed.
- Open Internet Explorer
- Press Alt + T
- Click Tools
- Click Internet options
- Click Delete in the Browsing history section
- Ensure ONLY the following check boxes have a check next to them:
- Temporary Internet files and website files
- Cookies and website data
- Click Delete
- Click Ok
